After a strange encounter during the walk leads them to a darkened house where they find a dead man, they realize that the dead man was the butler who was potentially involved in something illicit regarding dog racing. They suspect that there are two dogs named Tootsie and deduce that Mrs. Manners is using her situation to run a dog racing scam, training multiple greyhounds under one name to manipulate betting odds.
