About this episode

Originally Aired: May 12, 1953 Johnny Dollar #162, "The Rochester Theft Matter," Johnny Dollar receives an unexpected call from Sergeant Papish of the New York Police Department with news about a cold case: a five-thousand-dollar mink coat stolen six months ago from the Jacobys in Rochester has finally been recovered. The catch is that the coat is being worn by a young woman named Eileen Madden, who was found shot twice and unconscious in a Manhattan apartment building entrance, dumped there by an unknown man driving a black Cadillac. With the victim clinging to life and unable to answer questions, Dollar rushes to New York to investigate alongside Papish, hoping to recover the rest of the stolen jewelry and solve the mystery of how Eileen came to possess the coat. The investigation leads them to Eileen's apartment and her neighbor, Mrs. Stromberg, who provides a crucial lead: Eileen had been seeing a man named Bill who drove a black Cadillac matching the witness description. As Dollar and Papish piece together the connection between the Rochester theft, the mysterious boyfriend, and the brutal shooting, they race against time to identify the suspect before Eileen's condition worsens and their only potential witness is lost forever.
