About this episode

Originally Aired: August 11, 1937 Cavalcade of America #95, "Cavalcade Of Music Music Of Jerome Kern," presents a musical celebration featuring the compositions of Sigmund Romberg, one of America's most prolific contributors to lighter music. Conductor Don Boris leads the DuPont Cavalcade Orchestra, joined by guest artist Francia White, a charming young soprano who has traveled from Hollywood for this special series. The program showcases beloved Romberg melodies from his most successful operettas, including numbers from Maytime, The New Moon, and The Desert Song. Miss White receives an encouraging telegram from Romberg himself during rehearsal, expressing his pleasure at hearing her perform with the orchestra after remembering her beautiful singing in a Pacific Coast revival of Desert Song. Throughout the evening, the performance features some of Romberg's most enduring works, including "Will You Remember?" from Maytime, "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise" and "Stout Hearted Men" from The New Moon, and the stirring title song from The Desert Song. The program celebrates a composer whose name appears on any list of those who have enriched American music, with credits for 55 stage presentations and continued success in Hollywood picture studios.
