About this episode
Originally Aired: August 5, 1935 In Lum & Abner #166, “Abner Becomes the Biggest Society Man of All,” Pine Ridge is buzzing after Abner returns from the county seat determined to live the high-society life. Armed with a big automobile, a chauffeur named Adolf, and a wardrobe of flashy new suits, Abner plunges headfirst into late-night parties, nightclub outings, dancing, and extravagant spending. His friends—including Lum, Dick Huddleston, and Grandpap—are stunned at how completely “society” has gone to Abner’s head, especially after they had once struggled just to get him interested in social life at all. As Abner plans yet another all-night celebration complete with dancing, swimming, breakfast, golf, and horse races, the folks of Pine Ridge begin wondering how long he can keep up the wild pace. Meanwhile, rumors swirl about a supposedly valuable silver mine investment being pushed by Squire Skimp, adding another layer of small-town speculation and comic skepticism to the story. Cast: Chester Lauck (Lum Edwards), Norris Goff (Abner Peabody), supporting voices including Dick Huddleston and Grandpap Speers Tags: LumAndAbner, oldtimeradio, 1930scomedy, PineRidge, JotEmDownStore, societycomedy, AbnerPeabody, GrandpapSpeers, DickHuddleston, SquireSkimp, silvermine, smalltownhumor, vintagebroadcast, Horlicks, ruralcomedy, classicradio, nightclubantics, societycraze, radiohistory
