About this episode
Originally Aired: September 30, 1941 Fibber McGee & Molly #294, "Gildy Says Goodbye," Fibber and Molly finally return to 79 Wistful Vista after a thirteen-week vacation to Alaska, eager to regale everyone with tales of Fibber's bear-hunting exploits. The weary travelers arrive home to find their house in perfect order, thanks to Uncle Dennis watching over things while they were gone. Fibber is particularly proud of shooting a seven-foot-three-inch bear and can't wait to share the story with neighbors and friends, repeatedly trying to describe the majestic Arctic scenery to anyone who will listen. As the McGees settle back in, they receive visits from their usual acquaintances, including the self-absorbed Mrs. Uppington, who monopolizes the conversation with stories of her patriotic singing performances at army camps, and Billy Mills, fresh from his own summer activities. Despite Fibber's best efforts to talk about the glinting Arctic sun on Ketchikan Creek, everyone seems more interested in their own adventures, leaving the returning travelers somewhat deflated from their grand homecoming.
