Auto Theft - Charles Meade

Shortly after marrying the charming and ambitious Charles Meade, a young woman discovers her new husband’s true profession: stealing automobiles and reselling them across state lines using altered motor numbers, forged paperwork, and unsuspecting buyers. Rather than turning away, she joins him in a sprawling criminal enterprise that stretches across the country. As stolen cars begin appearing in multiple states, the FBI painstakingly follows a trail of altered registrations, abandoned vehicles, storage records, and forgotten correspondence. What begins with a wrecked car on a lonely Virginia road ultimately becomes a nationwide hunt for one of the era’s most successful auto theft rings. Originally aired: June 22, 1945.
