About this episode

Originally Aired: March 15, 1939 The Lone Ranger #957, "False Wagon Train Guides," finds the masked rider and Tonto investigating a sinister pattern of attacks on wagon trains crossing the dangerous Pipestone Hills. When a wagon party is ambushed by what appears to be Apache warriors, only one settler survives to tell the tale. The Lone Ranger suspects something more than Indian raids, particularly when he learns that Baldy Gorman, an outlaw run out of the north, has set up a guide service in Lake Falls. Baldy's groups have escorted several parties through the hills, yet the wealthiest wagon trains under his protection mysteriously face deadly attacks while Baldy himself never loses a man. Racing to intercept Lige Cook, his sister, and brother-in-law Matt Lowell before they hire Baldy's services, the Lone Ranger faces the settlers' suspicion of his mask. He convinces them of his honest intentions in dramatic fashion and urges them to join a military ammunition convoy instead. With the wealthy family considering his advice, the masked rider works to uncover whether Baldy Gorman is using fake Apache attacks to rob and murder innocent pioneers.
