About this episode
Originally Aired: March 31, 1939 The Lone Ranger #964, "Ranger Jailed For Murder," the masked rider finds himself behind bars after making an extraordinary sacrifice. While riding with Tonto, the duo encounters young Jack fleeing from a sheriff's posse. The boy, who once saved the Lone Ranger's life, insists he's innocent despite damning evidence: he was found with a stolen mustang and saddlebags containing papers taken from murdered banker Lem Billings. Believing in Jack's innocence, the disguised Lone Ranger switches horses with the boy and allows himself to be captured in Jack's place. Now imprisoned and facing murder charges, the Lone Ranger waits in jail while an angry mob led by the victim's brother, Bryce Billings, gathers outside demanding vigilante justice. Sheriff struggles to maintain order and prevent a lynching. Meanwhile, Jack grapples with guilt over accepting reward money for capturing the man who saved his life, unable to explain the truth to his adoptive guardian, Celia Wellington. As tensions mount and the mob closes in, the masked man's fate hangs in the balance.
