About this episode
Originally Aired: March 29, 1939 The Lone Ranger #963, "Wellington And Osage," The Lone Ranger returns to Pecos to deal with Jasper Wellington, a corrupt lawyer who has been framing evidence, bribing witnesses, and protecting criminals while sending honest men to jail. Wellington's sister Celia confronts him about his crooked ways and warns him that the masked rider is nearby, but the scheming lawyer refuses to leave town. Instead, Wellington decides to take drastic action against the man who threatens to expose his crimes. Wellington tracks down Osage, a man he holds leverage over through blackmail, and forces him to ambush the Lone Ranger and Tonto as they ride toward Pecos from Grand Pass. Osage waits in the brush near an arroyo with his rifle trained on the masked man's heart, but a young boy named Jack spots the danger. The boy's warning cry saves the Lone Ranger's life, though Osage viciously strikes Jack down before fleeing the scene. As Tonto tends to the injured boy, the question remains whether Wellington's deadly scheme will finally bring about his downfall.
