About this episode
Originally Aired: October 13, 1942 Fibber McGee & Molly #334, "Converting Oil Stove To Coal," Fibber McGee has made one of his instant decisions: to help with the country's wartime fuel distribution problem by converting their oil furnace back to coal. Despite Molly's sensible suggestion to call the Wilsons who originally converted it, Fibber insists on doing the job himself with his own hands. There's just one problem - Molly has returned all his borrowed tools to their rightful owners, leaving him without the equipment he needs. While Fibber stalls by working crossword puzzles to "sharpen his wits" and "stimulate his ingenuity," he claims he's simply preparing for the big job ahead. The Old Timer stops by to invite them to the circus, and Abigail Uppington arrives asking Molly to accompany her to a dog show where she's entering her prized Pekingese, Fifi. Molly declines, explaining that Fibber needs her there while he works on the furnace. As Fibber continues to delay the actual work, Uppington questions why he would waste his "mechanical genius" on such a project when nature has already provided him with a substitute fuel source.
