About this episode
Originally Aired: June 23, 1942 In Fibber McGee & Molly #331, "Packing For Vacation Locked Trunk," Fibber and Molly are preparing to leave for their summer vacation, but there's one major problem: Fibber has locked their suitcase with the key trapped inside. As the couple debates whether to head to the mountains or seashore, Fibber dismisses Molly's sensible suggestion to call Luke Smith the locksmith and instead attempts increasingly absurd solutions. The Old Timer stops by to pitch his brother's dude ranch, while little Teeny drops in but offers no real help with the locked trunk dilemma. Fibber's desperation escalates from trying to freeze the lock open with water to using one of his last firecrackers in an explosive attempt that fills the house with smoke but fails to crack the stubborn lock. As Molly tries to maintain her patience, Fibber launches into a rambling story about his cousin Ellsworth and their ill-fated dynamite adventures. With their departure scheduled for tomorrow morning, the McGees' vacation plans hang in the balance over one stubbornly locked suitcase.
