About this episode
Originally Aired: April 7, 1942 Fibber McGee & Molly #320, "Scrap Drive," Fibber and Molly are in their garage grooming their beloved horse Lillian when Mrs. Uppington stops by with an important wartime request. As chairwoman of the Wistful Vista Reclamation Committee, she asks them to search their home for salvageable materials—paper, rags, metal, and rubber—that can help the government make ships, tanks, guns, and ammunition. The McGees eagerly agree to have their contributions ready for pickup at four o'clock. The couple turns their attention to the infamous hall closet, that overstuffed repository of forgotten treasures and junk. As they carefully open it and begin sorting through decades of accumulated items, they uncover everything from an old aluminum coffee pot to Fibber's ukulele, which sparks an amusing disagreement about his pre-marriage serenading. With Mr. Wilcox arriving to help, the McGees create three piles for rubber, metal, and paper, discovering just how much they can contribute to the war effort while clearing out their cluttered closet.
