About this episode

Originally Aired: March 3, 1942 Fibber McGee & Molly #316, "Boomer's Suitcase," When the shady Horatio K. Boomer stops by 79 Wistful Vista fresh from a stint doing government work as an "Arkansas geologist" (breaking big rocks into little rocks), he asks Fibber and Molly to safeguard a mysterious locked suitcase for a few days. Boomer spins a dubious tale about the suitcase belonging to his dear old aunt who is moving because her husband's basement printing press was making too much noise—the kind of noise that might be heard all the way in Washington, D.C. Despite Molly's insistence that they respect Boomer's trust and leave the locked suitcase alone, both she and Fibber grow increasingly curious about its contents. Are they hiding counterfeit money, stolen goods, or something even more suspicious? As their curiosity gets the better of them, the McGees hatch a plan to accidentally knock the suitcase off the bookcase, hoping it will spring open when it hits the floor. Their scheme is interrupted when neighbor Abigail Uppington arrives to inquire about Lillian, the horse the McGees recently purchased, leading to the usual confusion and comedic misunderstandings.
