About this episode

Originally Aired: May 12, 1942 Fibber McGee & Molly #325, "Spy," Fibber McGee is convinced that a mysterious, dark-complected man with a camera is a foreign spy trailing him around Wistful Vista. Everywhere McGee goes—the Elks Club, the railroad station, the powerhouse, the bridge—the suspicious stranger appears, snapping pictures with his concealed camera. When McGee reports his concerns to Mayor LaTrivia, Molly tries to inject some reason into the situation, suggesting her husband might be jumping to conclusions. LaTrivia initially agrees to investigate but backs off when he learns McGee would need to sign a formal complaint, warning him about potential legal consequences if he's wrong. Undeterred, Fibber decides to gather evidence himself by watching the stranger from his own house. As the mysterious photographer continues lurking across the street focusing his camera on the McGee front door, Fibber's paranoia grows. He even worries the spy might be after his top-secret invention for the Signal Corps—a triple-cross bird combining a homing pigeon, woodpecker, and parrot to deliver military messages.
